Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. Millions of people are affected each year and the numbers continue to rise. Tanning beds and the image media puts out that "tanner is better" has people as young as 15 years old excessively tanning. This article from the Cancer Research Institute explains what Melanoma is and how to spot and prevent it. Melanoma begins as a skin cell called a melanocyte, they produce the skin pigment that gives us our natural skin color. When exposed to sunlight they produce melanin to help protect the skin form burning. Moles can form from this which are groups of the melanocytes, they can be harmless but they can also be cancerous. Just because you are naturally tan or have darker skin does not mean you are safe from this. Anyone can get skin cancer. People with fair skin or red and blonde hair do have a higher risk, but that doesn't not mean everyone else is in the clear. The site gives a detailed description and pictures of what a normal mole should look like and what a cancerous mole looks like. If you see any mole that looks suspicious you should get it checked out IMMEDIATELY. The longer you wait the more at risk you are for the cancer to spread. There are different treatments for curing melanoma, depending on the severity of it. This is a serious disease that most people don't seem to take seriously until it is too late. Don't be one of those people and always wear sunscreen! Even in winter they say!

The site offers information about the research the team is doing and different ways people can help them fund this very important research for a cure. New Stem Cell Treatment for Parkinson's

Even though I am against testing on animals and I feel bad for these poor monkeys but I thought this article was interesting people it shows how close researchers are getting to finding a cure for this horrible disease. They are transforming Stem Cells into brain cells and putting them into the brain to replace the dead neurons. The new cells seem to be function properly and reverse some of the problems causes by the disease. The monkeys have seemed to improve greatly after the procedure unlike in previous experiments where the cells just didn't function properly. Clinical trials with humans have not started yet because researchers are nervous that symptoms like tumors can occur from the dopamine neurons formed from human stem cells. Animals were given six injections into the site where Parkinson's develops in the brain. In mice and rats their was incredible improvement and the regained the loss of movement they experienced from the disease. The monkeys that were injected also improved greatly with even fewer neurons, which is an impressive sign. This is a huge development in searching for the cure for Parkinson's. They hope to start trials on humans soon.

Exercise and Strong Muscles

This is an article I found that interested me on aging and how to prevent muscle deterioration by exercise. This is very important as you grow older and want to stay healthy. It also gives other benefits besides decreased muscle deterioration that aerobic exercise can do for you. Some of the examples are being happier in life, increased brain function, and sleeping better at night, which are all important parts of a healthy lifestyle. http://www.fyiliving.com/health-news/exercise-helps-maintain-strong-muscles-well-into-old-age/
